SEPTEMBER
Dawn DuBois tendered her resignation from the Board of Education, putting a new spin on an already crowded election picture. Before DuBois stepped down, four candidates had filed to run for the two seats up for election in November. When the BOE called for volunteers to fill DuBois’ unexpired term, seven people stepped forward. In the end, the BOE named former member Steve Spardel to replace DuBois and while sitting member Michael Unis won re-election, Glenn Elliott lost his bid for a new term to challenger Jim Day. Across town, Verona got another new business, Mr. Bruno’s. The spin-off of a Lyndhurst pizzeria joined Kids Haircuts, Positivitea, Kate’s Kreations, Nellie & Bean, Lombardo Iron & Railing, and later, Cafe Alba.
