October saw sports return to the headlines. Lou Racioppe stepped down after a decade as head coach for the VHS baseball team. The girls tennis team had another strong season, making it all the way to the NJSIAA semifinals. The tennis team had put its tough training in the Super Essex Conference to good use, advancing to states after beating top-ranked Pompton Lakes in the North Jersey, Section 1 Group 1 sectionals.
