Work began to clear two lots on Durrell Street and make way for five single family homes. Jason Lembo had gotten approval for the project in 2008, but it stalled during the recession. At the end of the year, the road into the new cul-de-sac was paved and the sewer pipes laid, but there was no sign of the houses, which Lembo said were supposed to be ready for occupancy in January. Also in real estate, DMH2 took its plan for 176-200 Bloomfield Avenue, the steeply wooded lots near Everett Field, to the Planning Board after being rejected by the Board of Adjustment in March. At year end, the developer was sent back for a redesign that would perhaps limit its use of high retaining walls. Elsewhere, an amateur historian published a book on the tuberculosis sanatorium that once sat on Verona’s hilltop and a block party on Newman Avenue raised $6,000 for charity.
