The Board of Education approveD VHS’ coaches for 2013-2014 and there is one very well known newcomer among them: Jeff Stiefbold. The new volleyball coach is a 1982 graduate of VHS, and the son of legendary VHS soccer coach George “Steppy” Stiefbold. In September, his new team delivered his 500th career win and in November, they went all they way to the second round of the NJSIAA Group I playoffs. In other May news, on May 14, after the most contested (and contentious) Town Council election in many years, Kevin Ryan, Jay Sniatkowski and Bob Manley won re-election. On May 20, three armed men robbed the Subway store on Bloomfield Avenue near Pompton. By the end of the year, two had been arrested and entered guilty pleas.
