If you’re as happy as I am with the new Verona Town Council majority, your decision in the voting booth on May 9 should be an easy one.

Under the able leadership of Mayor Kevin Ryan, our municipal tax rate has remained flat for the last 3 years. Deputy-Mayor Nochimson and Councilman Roman have worked diligently with him to increase services to the taxpayers of Verona WITHOUT raising our taxes. Mayor Ryan is dedicated to giving us more of his expertise toward economic efficiency in our town government for the future as our needs continue to change.

Jack McEvoy is pledged to help the Verona Town Council accomplish more in the next election cycle. Jack is an INFORMED candidate and has been attending Town Council meetings for at least the last 5 years. He attends Planning Board sessions and is active as a volunteer in a number of Verona organizations. He has many new ideas for improving our town and he is working on answers to our street problems and concerns.

If you were unhappy with the large tax increases of previous administrations, it was because of the “Yes Men” who voted for those increases. It has recently come to my attention that 2 of these “Yes Men” are now working with 2 of the other candidates running for Town Council. We don’t want to go back to excessive fiscal policies and a repeat of the past. We want Council people who have attended meetings for years, seen what was happening, spoken out at public meetings and stepped up to the plate to see that it doesn’t happen again. Kevin and Jack are the ONLY candidates who can lay claim to this history.

Why don’t you plan to attend the Candidates Forum at Temple Beth Ahm on April 26? Hear all the answers for yourself and decide who is most informed and qualified to represent you. I think you will find that the sensible decision is to vote for Kevin Ryan and Jack McEvoy in the May 9 election.

  1. In order to “be careful who we vote for”, shouldn’t the writer identify the two candidates and the two “Yes Men” in question?
