If you’re going to see “The Great Gatsby” at the Paper Mill Playhouse, it’s understandable that you’ll be paying attention to the performances on stage. But listen, too, to the drumming for the musical, which opens tonight, Thursday, October 12: That performer is Skyler Fortgang, a 2015 graduate of Verona High School.
Since earning his bachelor of music degree in percussion performance from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts in 2019, Fortgang has performed in a variety of Broadway, Off-Broadway, touring, and regional theater productions. He subbed on Broadway for “Paradise Square,” “A Strange Loop” and “KPOP,” and performed at the Paper Mill in “Rent” this past July. Fortgang also appears on albums with artists like Cristina, The Other Lovers, Skylar Pocket, Kathleen Elle, Andre Molina and more.
