QUESTION 4: The BOE is the most demanding community position in Verona, and you all have day jobs. What in your current job roles and responsibilities might prevent you from fully carrying out your duties on the BOE?

While the possibility of the unexpected is something we all face, when I consider my life as it is today, I do not foresee any regular difficulties in carrying out my duty on the Board of Education. I am fortunate to have a job that I can do remotely or during non-traditional hours. My husband and I are supportive of each others’ goals and passions, both wanting the other to succeed as a parent, as a professional, and as a community member. My children are a huge part of everything I do; I’ve been able to show them the importance of education by completing my graduate work together with them at home. I try to instill the value of service through my commitment to their activities and to the community as a BOE candidate, a VMAC member, a class parent, a Girl Scout troop leader, and a participant in the 2018 strategic planning process.

As this is our final question, I would like to thank you all for your interest in this series of candidate responses. I hope that you feel more informed as you cast your vote on Tuesday, November 5th. As a board member, I will support our teachers and our administrators so they can continue to do the hard and amazing work they do for our children every day. I will bring my unique experience in business operations and mental health treatment to the board’s evaluation of our current mental health programs in order to identify opportunities for improvement. As a mom to two elementary school children, I share your feelings of uncertainty about our kids’ ability to thrive in a future world that is sure to look different than it does today. I will work with the board to evaluate all of our schools from a future-ready perspective: using technology in a meaningful and safe way, helping students to develop the critical thinking, problem solving, and coping skills they will need for the jobs of tomorrow. I will research increased opportunities for strategic planning and public transparency as we continue to face the reality of our aging infrastructure and growing student population. Lastly, I will work to make the board more accessible to you. There are so many Verona residents that are looking for new ways to participate in the process of government and I look forward to working with the board to identify and implement new methods of community engagement.
