The week of November 25 saw a celebration at Verona’s newest real estate development, big games for former VHS athletes, and a big fundraiser in Verona Park.
The former Annin flag factory and its new companion building welcomed their first tenants, township officials and a descendent of the founding Annin family on Wednesday night. The buildings contain 112 apartments, including studios and one and two bedrooms, with rents that begin at $1,975 a month. Though exterior seems the same, the interior is a transformation.
Several former Verona High School athletes competed in NCAA college playoffs. Julia Ashley (VHS ’15) got the University of North Carolina women’s soccer team to the College Cup finals after scoring the opening goal in UNC’s quarterfinal against UCLA and the OT goal that gave UNC the semifinal win over Georgetown. But the championship was won by Florida State. Meanwhile, three members of Verona High School’s 2014 championship football team found themselves in NCAA playoffs as well. Two of the three face another game this coming weekend after their teams won.
A crowd of 600 people braved the cold in Verona Park on Saturday for Team Zoey‘s Turkey Trot, and they raised a substantial amount to fund research into progeria, a rapid aging disease.
What else happened in the week of November 25? For Giving Tuesday, MyVeronaNJ made a list of Verona’s charities that depend on donations and volunteers all year long, Project Graduation 2020 set a fundraiser, and there were a few new listings in real estate.
