Question 3: The BOE is essentially the board of directors of our schools. In a corporate setting, board members bring best practices from the outside world to the company they serve. What one best practice would you like to share with the Verona BOE?
Pamela J. Priscoe: There are many goals that I would love to achieve as a member of the Board of Education and to bring a new sense of leadership and direction to the District, and if elected, I am confident that I will do just that. The Board of Education, as any business, must incorporate best practices. I believe that effective communication is at the core of best practices for any business or school board. Effective communication must be seamless amongst the Board members, but also with the public as well. It is impossible to think that one person alone can invoke effective change and accomplish the required needs of the District without working as a team.
I will bring a fiscally sound approach to the decision-making processes and one that is in the best interests of the students and the community. As a 35-year resident of Verona, I have seen the Board turn over many times and decisions made that were not necessarily in the best interest of the students and the District as a whole. Focusing on student achievement and implementing policies that ensure the success of every student is a major focus.
It is time for change and I vow to work with my fellow board members to make fiscally responsible decisions for all students with a focus on the present and future needs of the District.
