Hillbilly-OrnamentsThe Verona High School Alumni Association will be selling Christmas ornaments with the original Hillbilly logo (that’s gun and jug, not fishing pole and puppy for you newbies) at Fair in the Square on Saturday. They are $8 apiece or two for $15.

  1. My cousin has been selling Christmas ornaments at fair in the square for years. Most of her sales have been from her beautiful hand painted Verona Christmas balls that have the Verona v on them. I think that it is wrong for the Verona high school alumni association to steal her idea – their ornaments just so happen to have the verona v on them too – Not a good way to promote positivity during the holiday season , especially at such a nice community affair.

  2. My friend has been hand painting Verona “V” ornaments at Fair in the Square for over 5 years. It is very disappointing to see that the VHS alumni association would steal her original , hand crafted idea! You should be ashamed of yourselves, especially around the holidays!

  3. Jen, Kris:

I’m not sure that this qualifies as “stealing” an idea. The VHS Alumni Association is authorized to use the original Hillbilly logo and has done so on other merchandise over the years, sold online and off. Not everybody who lives in town now loves the old logo, but for some it has meaning. And I’m sure, given the weather today, that there will be enough shoppers at Fair in the Square for all the vendors.

  4. Is it unfair that we, as an organization, aim to unite fellow alumni–young and old–and work really hard all year to raise funds to benefit the community we share? Is it really a unique idea to sell Christmas ornaments at christmas time at a holiday fair held to commemorate the tree lighting?

The alumni association is a non-profit organization, and every dime from the sales of those ornaments will go towards scholarships we offer to graduation seniors…scholarships we have made available EVERY YEAR since the inception of the VHSAA.

Not sure how anyone could ever see any issue with that. Every single thing we do is geared toward engaging VHS alumni–past and present–and placing an emphasis on how fortunate we are to come from such a wonderful town. Support those initiatives, instead of discouraging their intent. :)
