Saturday for champions: Joe Cordasco and the rest of the Verona High School wrestling team heads to West Essex High School for the district championships. Meanwhile, Gabriela Mercurio, Melanie Egan and Julia Ashley will head south to the Bennett Center in Toms River. All three qualified this past Saturday to compete at the track Meet of Champions. Mercurio had her personal best jump in pole vault of nine feet, Egan took fourth place in the 3200m with a time that broke the VHS record for that event, while Ashley won the group title in the 800m.
