The sock hop scheduled for February 27 and sponsored by Verona’s chapter of UNICO, the Italian-American Service Organization, has a double meaning and a double benefit: In addition to dancing to the oldies band “Joey Arminio and the Family,” attendees will bring socks to be donated to U.S. military personnel overseas.

Proceeds from the event, which is being held at the Cedar Grove VFW Hall, will benefit local scholarships and charities. The $55-per-person charge includes  a beefsteak dinner, beer and soda. Attendees must also bring a pair of white socks to gain admission to the dance; UNICO members will send the socks to U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. There will also be a tricky tray.

Keep in mind that there are other Verona fundraisers planned for the same night, including the GFWC Junior Woman’s Club’s Casino Night and the Verona United Soccer Club’s Comedy Night. No matter which you event decide  to attend, you can still support the other organizations’ efforts by making a contribution.

The sock hop begins at 7 p.m.; for tickets, e-mail Nancy Magrans or call Linda-Gail Alati at 973-857-4530.
