The Hilltop Conservancy, the group that has been restoring the woodlands on the west side of Verona, needs some volunteers this weekend.

To prepare the last two acres of the Hilltop’s pond forest regeneration site for the planting of native trees, the Conservancy needs to clear brush from the site and stack it out of the way.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to noon both days. The Conservancy says that the cleanup will still happen in we have light showers. But if there is a hard rain, it will cancel for that day.

To participate, you should wear sturdy shoes and work gloves, and bring pruning saws or bow saws if you have them, plus water to drink. They would also appreciate anyone who can bring a chainsaw.

To get to the Hilltop pond site on the east side of White Rock Road, you should park in the Freedom Field or or Liberty Field parking lots, and walk into the Hilltop from there.

The Hilltop Conservancy is an all-volunteer group that is restoring the woodlands and meadows on the west side of Verona. For more than a decade, it has removed invasive plants and diseases or damaged trees, while restoring meadows and planting new trees so that the Hilltop can be used for walking, hiking and other kinds of passive recreation.
