Joel Gonzalez, Jake Ferry and John Stockelberg each captured third place in their respective weight classes at the Essex County Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.
Competing at the Codey Arena, Gonzalez wrestled at 146 pounds, Ferry at 152 and Stockelberg in the heavyweight category at 287. Verona finished ninth out of 22 teams.
Gonzalez, a junior, had 12 wins and just two losses coming into the ECT. Ferry, a senior, had 10 uninterrupted wins. Stockelberg, a junior, also had 12 wins and 2 losses.
Verona is 10-6 on the season, and 5-1 in the Super Essex Conference’s Liberty division. The wrestled are scheduled to host Nutley on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and they will then travel to Bogota on Friday evening.
