The Hilltop Grasshopper Kids Bike Race, a youth mountain bike race started by Verona residents more than a decade ago, will be held on Saturday, August 12, near the Cedar Grove Community Center on 199 Fairview Avenue, and registration is now open.
The race is open to children from pre-K to 8th grade, and start times are separated by age and gender. Any bike with fatter tires is ideal and mechanics will inspect all bikes for safety and last minute race tuning. No balance bikes or bikes with training wheels are allowed.
Registration and inspection opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes 15 minutes before the start of each category. Participants’ parents or guardians must pay a $10 registration fee and sign a waiver, and the participant’s bicycle must pass a technical inspection. They must also be present during the race.
Attendees can park at the Community Center, or below the course at the Alaris Health facility in Cedar Grove.
For directions and more information, see the race website.
The race organizers say they could use the help of more volunteers on race day to handle registration, checking bikes, and monitoring both the course and the finish line. To volunteer your time, email [email protected] .
