Max Morden has been a music teacher in Verona’s schools for a long time, and the director of the Verona High School jazz ensemble Verona Jazz & Beyond. So it shouldn’t surprise that, when he wants to create some music, he has musicians to call on.
On Thursday, June 8, Morden will bring together the jazz alumni and professional musicians who live in and around Verona for a free concert at VHS. The show starts at 7 p.m., and yes, it is free.
The alumni include Amanda and Matthew Morden, Jon Lango, Giancarlo Cordasco, Anthony DeVizio, Joe Priori, Aleks Ozolins, Colin Vega, Brian Ferrel, Stephan Lipinski, Dean Nevolis, Kitty Pagano, Matt Tischio, Sawyer Conlon, Austin Yee, Janine Barboza (Miscia), Sharon Palatucci, Matt Ryan, Miranda Williams, and Wes Ostrander. The pros include Verona-based Becky Vega, John Priori, John Palatucci, and Anders Bostrom.
And that might not be the only free music coming our way. Morden, who held concerts on his front lawn during the pandemic, is teasing that “I may also do a couple of my lawn concerts again this summer.”
