Mr. Michael W. Dewar died on January 22, 2023 in Hackensack University Medical Center. He was 55 years old.

Relatives and friends will be gathering in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Saturday, January 28 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Born in Newark, Michael grew up and lived most of his life in Verona, moving to Morris Plains three years ago.

He had an associate degree in art from Caldwell College (Caldwell University) and a bachelors degree in sports science from Ohio University. He worked as a hair colorist in the West Essex area.

An avid runner, he would run at least 25 miles most days and he participated in multiple Marathons in New York City, Boston, Chicago and the District of Columbia, to name a few. He also enjoyed skiing and scuba diving.

His life changed 12 years ago when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. He tried to always look forward, tried various treatments and became a longer term survivor. He was sponsored by and very appreciative of the support that he received from the NY Giants and various players over the years.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, William and Irmal Dewar and his sister, Gloria Greene. He is survived by his sister, Lisa Smith, brother, Gary Roe, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved cat, Jorge.
