Zalewski, McEnerney Excel At County XC Championships

Junior Ian Zalewski won the overall Essex County Cross Country Championship on Friday, October 21. The race was held at Branch Brook County Park. Zalewski took the lead over Newark Academy’s Matthew Malloy with 200 meters to go in the race and held on to win the title in a competitive field of 153 runners. He ran the course in a season best time of 16:25 for a 3.1 mile race.

Freshman Liam McEnerney won the Freshmen Division County Championship at the same meet. He outpaced the 78-competitor field the entire race, finishing with a season best time of 11:42 for the 2 mile race.

The boys and girls cross country teams will look to continue their successful season at the State Sectional Championships next Saturday, October 29, at Oak Ridge Park in Clark.
