Members of Verona Kids Rock, a community service group for elementary and middle school children, started the new year off on a very kind foot on Sunday.

The group collected donations to defray a Caldwell family’s cost of staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia. Over the past four decades, the fast food company has established places where families can stay while their children are undergoing life-saving treatments in cities and countries all over the world. Families are not required to pay for their stays, but the Ronald McDonald Houses do have a suggested donation that they can make. For $35, families and their supporters can cover lodging for one night; $20 covers basic supplies and a $10 donation will pay for snacks for the family.

The members of Verona Kids Rock also made friendship pins to celebrate the day, which will be handed out at a local nursing home next month. And they had lunch at a local McDonald’s to order some of their all-time favorites.
