To the Editor,

As two former council members, we are writing to express our support of Christine McGrath for Verona Town Council.

This is a pivotal moment in the town. Verona is facing development in many areas, and residents are surprised with the size and scope of these potential changes. We know from experience how important it is for the local government to engage residents on the important issues that impact the town, and its time for a transformation in this area. Christine is going to bring new approaches to communication – drawing on her experience in the corporate world and in leadership positions – that will change this. Her ideas to improve communication with residents will be a huge step in the right direction.

Communication is a two-way street. In addition to improving what we share with residents, we need residents involved if we’re going to make our town a success. We have so many smart, great people in town. Christine has a history of leadership in organizations where this is exactly what’s required – pulling together diverse resources to get the best result. And she’ll do that here. We need members of council that understand the importance of involving residents on the issues that impact our community.

Finally, we know from our experience on the council that having a sound, long-term strategy is the best way to get ahead of Verona’s toughest issues. We fully support Christine’s proposal that the township create a strategic plan with a long-term view. Christine’s employment background and her experience in various Verona-based organizations, is the right combination of skills and local knowledge needed to drive this initiative.

On May 14th, please go out and vote for Christine McGrath, line 5A.

Sincerely,

Maria Force
Former Verona Mayor and Councilwoman 1995-2001

Catherine Tamasik
Verona Councilwoman 1984-1986 and 1993-1995
