Tuesday, November 5 is election day. Polling locations in Verona will be open 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. It’s also a half day for all Verona public school students in case you’ve forgotten.
There are several key races to be decided today. In Verona, we have four candidates running for two seats on the Board of Education. This is the first time in many years that there has been a contested election to the BOE, which determines the fate of 54% of the tax dollars in Verona. You can read our full guide to the election here. The BOE meets tonight, and will pick one of the seven candidates to fill the unexpired term of former Board member Dawn DuBois.
New Jerseyans are also voting for governor and in many state races. For governor and lieutenant governor, Republican incumbents Chris Christie and Kim Guadagno are up against Democratic challengers Barbara Buono and Milly Silva. There are also six candidate teams from other independent parties.
In the state Senate race for our district, incumbent Joe Pennacchio is being challenged by Avery Ann Hart. In the corresponding Assembly race, incumbents Jay Webber and BettyLou DeCroce face Democrats Elliot Isibor and Joseph Raich.
