GeographyGeography Bee: On Friday, April 5, HBW 7th grader Nicolas Slawski and Our Lady of the Lake School 6th grader Philip Chivily will be heading to south Jersey for the state finals of the National Geographic Society Geography Bee. They must navigate eight rounds of oral question before heading into finals that consist of oral, written, and identification questions. The state champion gets $100 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the finals, which will be held on May 20 to 22. Verona can hold its head high at the Geography Bee: In 1996, HBW student Oluseyi Fayanju not only made it to D.C., he captured the national competition.
