Candidate Statement

IT IS TIME FOR RESULTS! I am seeking election for the two year term for the Verona Town Council, because like my fellow residents I want to see results. I know that I can make a difference during these challenging times, and will seek to accomplish more with less.

My wife Maureen, son James and I have made our home here in Verona for over 17 years. We love the sense of community and small town feeling, but are tired of increased taxes. We have dedicated ourselves to making Verona a better place to live, and I have served on the Verona Board of Adjustment, the Verona Budget Review Committee, Verona Recreation Committee and Verona Pool Committee, started the Verona High School Boys’ Lacrosse Program, coached Verona Eagles and youth lacrosse.

I also have PROVEN EXPERIENCE in improving municipal services, keeping a lid on expenses, and willing to say “NO” on budget matters. Having over fifteen (15) years of experience in writing grants, financing senior housing options; performing fiscal impact and feasibility studies; and in helping solve problems in other New Jersey municipalities, I understand cost cutting strategies. I hold two Master’s Degrees (Public Administration and Real Estate Development) which I had put to good use when I served as a Verona Township Councilman from 2003 to 2007.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION COUNT, BUT RESULTS MATTER.
Here are just a few of my accomplishments while I served on the Township Council:

• Negotiated the construction of the Centennial Turf Field with the Hilltop Developer to be built before their housing project with their own money.
RESULT: Beautiful Field enjoyed by Verona High School Athletics and Community youth sports. NO INCREASE IN TAXES.

• Located a New Jersey Transportation grant to purchase a new senior citizen mini-bus for transporting our seniors to local shopping and medical services. I collaborated and supported our Township’s grant application, which resulted in receipt of the funds to purchase the mini-bus. RESULT: RECEIVED GRANT; NO INCREASE IN TAXES

• Led the effort to install the dual water slides at the Verona Community Pool, RESULT: Enjoyment for all teenagers and parents. PAID FOR WITH POOL FEES; NO INCREASE IN TAXES

• Galvanized Council support to implement the Verona Summer Concert Series. RESULT: Provided a venue to promote Verona’s local businesses
and music enjoyment for our community. PAID FOR WITH MONEY FROM SPONSORSHIPS AND REALLOCATION OF EXISTING BUDGET; NO INCREASE IN TAXES

Voter turnout in Verona is notoriously low, and it results in a very small number of people deciding who gets elected. With increased voter turnout, more people will have a say in the decision making. Please come out to vote. Your vote counts and I will work hard to make you proud of your decision. Vote for Jim Robbins, 5A TWO YEAR TERM on May 10th. RESULTS MATTER!
