The Verona Fire Department responded to a call early this morning at 88 Pompton Avenue. Something, likely a cigarette butt, had gotten tossed into the much around the building’s landscaping and set it on fire. The blaze was quickly knocked back, but the incident should be taken as a reminder: The long, arid summer has left lawns, shrubs and trees in our area very dry and very susceptible to fire. Please be careful out there.
