Beginning May 7, 2025, you will have to have a REAL ID-compliant driver license to fly within the U.S. or use a U.S. passport. Up to now, getting a REAL ID has meant that Verona residents have to go to a New New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) location and endure what is often a wait of several hours.
But on Tuesday, February 20, the mobile MVC unit is coming to Verona and you can book a 15-minute appointment here. The mobile unit will be at the Verona Community Center, 88 Bloomfield Avenue. (UPDATE: The mobile unit will be at the VCC through February 23.)
Yes, there’s still a lot of paperwork involved. You’ll need to bring two proofs of residential address, one proof of your Social Security number and six other points of ID, which can range from your current driver’s license to a tax bill. More information on REAL ID and all the paperwork here.
Get a Passport. Less hassles and most can be done via US mail, last longer(10 yrs v 4 yrs) cost 50. NJ – The Real ID costs $35, which is $11 more than a standard New Jersey license or ID. So if you already have a standard, that’s 46.00
