UPDATE: The hearing has been postponed to January 19.
Matthew Swajkowski, the 36-year-old teacher from Verona charged with sexually assaulting and endangering the welfare of a Verona High School student, is now scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, December 22. There had been a court appearance scheduled for this past Monday, December 11, but that did not happen.
Swajkowski has been detained in the Essex County jail since the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office arrested him at his home in Verona on Friday, September 22. A joint investigation by the ECPO and the Verona Police Department asserted that Swajkowski had engaged in sexual conduct with a Verona juvenile.
The Verona school district has placed Swajkowski, who was a science teacher at Verona High School, on administrative leave.
The allegations made here are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Is there an update to this story?
The state called a snow day on January 19, which closed all state offices and courts, so the hearing that had been scheduled for that day was not held. The new date is Monday, February 5.
Any updates today?
There was supposed to have been a hearing on Monday, February 5. It was postponed, without explanation as to why. We have not been given a new date yet.
Any updates? thanks
