Forest Avenue Elementary School recently commemorated a long-time Verona and Forest Avenue family with the unveiling of a plaque on the newly renovated display showcase in front of the school.

George and Lois Stiefbold were strong supporters of Forest Avenue School and always enjoyed chatting with students and families. The Forest Avenue SCA used funds donated by the Stiefbold family to renovate the showcase, which was originally installed in 2005 as part of an Eagle Scout project. Another local Forest family, the Hynes’, spent several weeks revamping the display showcase, and last week it was officially unveiled by the Stiefbold family and Forest Avenue Principal Jeffrey Monacelli.

A Little Free Library was also installed over the summer using funds raised by the 2023 fourth grade class as their legacy gift to the school. Green Valley Landscaping, a local business owned and operated by a Forest Avenue parent, installed the Little Free Library and also generously donated their time as well as their landscaping expertise to beautify the front of the school. All are welcome to choose or donate a children’s book in the library.

  1. As a VHS 1972 grad I remember Mr. Stiefbold – he was our successful soccer coach and more. God bless the Stiefbold family for their influence on VHS!

  2. I am a 1974 graduate of Verona High School. I remember Mr Stiefbold fondly from VHS and Mrs. Stiefbold was my Brownie troop leader! She was the best. I graduated with their daughter Kathy. Her younger twin brothers were quite a sensation at the time of their arrival. This is a wonderful attribute in their honor. God Bless you all. I will visit the cute library with my grandson and pick a book and leave a book.

  3. As a 1958 VHS graduate I clearly recall Mr. Stiefbold as my driver ed. teacher. A predecessor of his was Mr. DeStefano who was called Steffie. After he left they called Mr. Stiefbold “Steffie,” at least for awhile. Of course I went to FN Brown school… Bob Anderson

  4. Our family is extremely thankful for this recognition. Our parents loved teaching and coaching, and thought the world of our wonderful town of Verona and Forest Avenue School.
