The Verona Municipal Republican Committee (VMRC) is offering two $500 scholarships to students who are residents of Verona and will graduate high school with the class of 2024.
Inspired by a scholarship granted by the Military Officers Association of America, the VMRC wishes to recognize two Verona High School students who pen an uplifting and inspiring essay describing their appreciation for our U.S. military veterans. This could be directed to one specific veteran, as in a family member or friend, or to the collective as a whole.
Essays will be accepted for high school seniors:
- headed to a 2- or 4-year college/university
- headed to the military
- headed to a trade school
- and those who pursue other ambitions outside of post-high school programs
The essay theme is “My Message to U.S. Military Veterans”
Our veterans, living and dead, put their lives on the line to protect our personal freedoms and liberties. In your own words, write an essay in which you describe to our veterans what you are personally thankful for and how you feel about the risks and sacrifices they have made for their country. The essay should include an uplifting and inspiring message that will be read and evaluated by a special committee at VMRC consisting of at least one U.S. military veteran.
The two winning essays will be featured on our new website and each student will receive a $500 check to use in their journey upon graduation from high school.
- 250 minimum – 500 words maximum
- Your name, address and phone number must be on the essay
- Deadline is May 15, 2024
