Jean Barbara Donnelly (Glassman), age 72, died peacefully on August 3, 2023 at her home for the past 7 years in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Jean, the daughter of David and Eva, was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Queens, New York City. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she earned her BFA and later the San Francisco Art Institute for her MFA. She met her husband Robert Donnelly on Mother’s Day in San Francisco where their two children were born. They moved back east to be near her family and for 30 years in Verona, NJ she raised her children, continued her artwork, and created a richly aesthetic and beautiful home. She was a talented artist who captivated others with her empathy, creativity, and eccentric charm. Known as Jeannie to her close friends, she was a true life force and a compassionate listener with an endearing sense of humor.

More than anything else, she brought her family together and loved and cared for them deeply. She is survived by: Robert Donnelly, her devoted husband of 43 years; her daughter, Sara Donnelly (Carl Yost); her son, Louis Donnelly (Zoe Blatt); her three grandchildren, Henry, Sidney, and Ezra; her sister and best friend, Toni Taterka (Jim); and her nephews, Sam (Kathleen), Ben (Becca), and Charlie.

In the final three years of her life, she was loved and supported by her whole family; her devoted friends, Terry, Diana, and Debbie; and a team of exceptional caregivers and companions, including Denise, Debbie, Val, and Tonya.

Throughout her whole life, Jean’s presence provided joy and comfort to those she got to know. She will be missed immensely by all who had the good fortune to know and love her.

Jean’s memorial service will be private. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
