Mr. Joseph F. Riesenman of West Milford, formerly of Verona, died June 22, 2023 in the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice, Fredon Township, New Jersey at the age of 89.

Mr. Riesenman retired in 1992 as director of ethics and business conduct at NYNEX (Verizon) in New York. He was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania and graduated from Allegheny College in 1955. He was married to the late Doris Forshay Riesenman in 1955 and lived in Verona for 40 years.

An active citizen in Verona over the years, Mr. Riesenman was president of the Verona Jaycees, a member of the Verona Ambulance Unit, a member of the Verona Board of Adjustment and ran for Town Council. In addition, he served as a director of the Beaver Lake Realty Company, was a past president of the Beaver Lake Homeowner’s Association and a member and former president of the New York City Jaycees.

For over 60 years during the summer months, Mr. Riesenman enjoyed spending his time at his summer residence at Beaver Lake.

Mr. Riesenman was preceded in death by his wife Doris; his son, John T. Riesenman, and his sister, Catherine Patricia Riesenman.

He is survived by his daughter, Ann E. Riesenman, a retired physical therapist, and his son, Dr. Joseph J. Riesenman, a family practice physician; a brother, Robert Riesenman, of London, England, and two sisters, Marion O’Leary, State College, Pennsylvania, and Ruth Riesenman, Indiana, Pennsylvania; a daughter-in-law, Noelle and two grandchildren, Matthew and Isabel, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair, on Monday June 26 at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Isaac Forshay – Doris Forshay Riesenman Scholarship Fund of the Glen Ridge Congregational Church, 195 Ridgewood Avenue, Glen Ridge, NJ 07028. Contributions may also be made to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice or to the Myelodysplasia Syndrome Foundation.
