Verona Fireworks Friday

For years, Verona has lowered the cost of its Independence Day fireworks by holding them a few days ahead of July 4. This year, the celebration will be this Friday, June 30, by the Verona Community Center.

A DJ will begin playing music at 7 p.m. at Liberty Field, one of the two youth sports fields above the Community Center. The fireworks will begin after 9:15 p.m. (Cedar Grove’s fireworks will also be June 30 this year.)

Parking will be limited at the Community Center and the fields, so you may need to park on Fairview Avenue and walk up or across Bloomfield Avenue on Beechwood or Oakridge. If you want to see the fireworks without the big booms directly overhead, your best bet is the parking lot behind Laning Avenue elementary school.

If the weather is bad, the rain date for Verona is Wednesday, July 5.

If you absolutely have to see your fireworks on July 4, you’ll need to go south or west. The Montclair Golf Club on Mt. Prospect Avenue holds its fireworks on the Fourth. You can’t get in unless you are a member, but you can get a nice view of of the display from the higher elevations in Verona or the former Kmart parking lot in West Orange. To the west, Caldwell, Essex Fells, Roseland, North Caldwell and West Caldwell hold a joint fireworks display at James Caldwell High School. It will cost you $3 per adult or $1 pr child to get on the school grounds, or you can park in any of the business lots around the intersection of Bloomfield and Passaic avenues for a pretty good view.

  1. It’s called 4th of July for a reason! We pay enough in taxes! For you to say you save money is an embarrassment for what it stands for.

  2. This is great! I have little kids and this will be our fist year that they will be staying up late enough to watch! I also appreciate them happening on a Friday night as it’s not a workday morning the next day dealing with overtired children who need to get to daycare. Thanks for the info on the best viewing spots as I was concerned one of my guys would not do well with the loud noises. This is perfect!
