Ten Verona High School track athletes are headed to the state Group championship after finishing strong at Sectionals on Friday and Saturday at Randolph High School.
Verona kicked things off with a first place in the first event, when the Verona girls 4 x 100m team of Maile O’Neill, Alana Holton, Lauren Kobernick and Sarah Knoetig combined for a new school record in 51.75. Kobernick also took second place in the 100m hurdles.
The fifth place finished by Eleanor Newman in pole vault, Aimee Griffin in discus and the 4x 400m relay team of Holton, Kobernick, Lucia Grant and Sarah Knoetig also qualified those athletes for Groups, which will be held at Franklin High School next weekend.
On the boys team, Ian Zalewski took second place in the 3200m, third place in the 1600m, and fifth place in the 800m.
Alec Hamson achieved second place in pole vault, while Connor Robinson took sixth place in both the 400m hurdles and 200m.
