Mrs. Helen A. Patterson, 96, died peacefully on September 8, 2020 at home in Verona, surrounded by her loving family.

Visiting will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020 in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Ave., Verona from 2 to 5 pm. Facial masks must be worn and social distancing observed. A funeral mass will be offered at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Lakeside Ave., Verona on Monday at 10 a.m.

Born and raised in Newark, Mrs. Patterson moved to Verona 57 years ago.

She was an elementary school teacher at St. Casimir’s School in Newark and then worked as a teacher’s aide Our Lady of the Lake School in Verona.

During her retirement she was a beloved staple at DiPaolo Bakery in Verona for many years.

In her spare time she enjoyed reading, gardening, baking and fishing.

Mrs. Patterson was predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years, Lester Patterson and her son, Terry Patterson and her son-in-law, Nicholas Varanelli.

She is survived by her loving children, Susan Varanelli, Peter Patterson (Priscilla Hayes) and Pamela Blind (James) and her daughter-in-law, Edith Patterson; cherished 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be considered to Our Lady of the Lake Endowment Trust Fund, 22 Lakeside Ave., Verona, NJ 07044 would be appreciated.
