Patrick “PJ” Walshe will host an evening benefitting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s quest for cures at the Verona Inn on Thursday April 16, from 5 to 10 p.m. The Verona Inn will generously donate 20% of all dinner checks directly to the LLS. Diners need only order their dinner and mention LLS (dine in or take-out) that night to trigger the donation credit.
Walshe, 18, a senior at St Peter’s Prep, is inspired to train for and run the Long Branch Half Marathon again for LLS’s TEAM in Training (TNT), marking the fourth time he will have completed the event alongside his father, 14-year leukemia survivor, Tim Drost. Mr. Drost will run the Marathon with TEAM in Training this year also.
The race will have special significance for both Walshe and Drost as they take action to raise awareness and funding for blood cancer research. Walshe and Drost are part of TEAM R4C (Run For Cures) based in Caldwell. Team R4C has raised over $300,000 for blood cancer research since its inception. Together with their teammates, PJ and Tim hope to raise another $50,000 this year.
“I look forward to running this race in honor of my dad. By partnering with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, we are truly finding cures every year. It’s so rewarding to be able to help other families,” says Walshe. Secure donations to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society can also be made by visiting PJ’s Web page.
The Verona Inn is located at 624 Bloomfield Avenue in the center of Verona.
