It’s generally a light week for activities in Verona, thanks to the Martin Luther King Day holiday and mid-terms at Verona High School. But both the Town Council and Board of Education are meeting tonight, Tuesday, January 22.
The Town Coucil meeting begins at 7 p.m. on the second floor of Town Hall. The Board of Education meeting starts at 8 p.m. in the VHS media center. Neither body has posted its agenda for tonight on its Web site. The BOE has e-mailed this agenda; still nothing posted for the Town Council.
As for the rest of the week, remember that Thursday and Friday are half days at VHS because of mid-terms. There are no high school sports until Friday, when the girls basketball team plays St Vincent’s Academy in Newark at 4 p.m. The track teams are at the Varsity Invitational at Fairleigh Dickinson’s Rothman Center in Hackensack Campus, with a 4:30 p.m. start. The boys basketball team plays Glen Ridge at home at 7 p.m.
Also on Friday night, the Essex County wrestling tournament kicks off at Codey Arena. VHS will be without Frank Greco, who broke his hand in the match last week against Barringer. The tournament starts at 7 p.m. and continues Saturday morning, beginning at 9 a.m. Of course, all the Friday action is contingent on weather, and right now the forecast is calling to five to six inches of snow.
On Saturday, January 26, the cheerleading team is in competition at Secaucus High School. The Verona-Glen Ridge hockey team faces West Essex at the Codey Arena at 6:45 p.m.
