Mr. Luca Masucci, 94, died peacefully on July 13, 2023 at Mattison Crossing at Manalapan Avenue in Freehold, New Jersey.
Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona will be on Tuesday, July 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church – the National Shrine of St. Gerard, Newark. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, North Arlington.
Born and raised in Volturara Irpina, Avellino, Italy, Luca immigrated to the United States with his father in 1947 to gain employment so he could bring his mother and siblings to America. He met his future wife while they were both studying English at night school. Luca held jobs as a pie maker and coffin builder before he began his career as a welder with PSE&G in Newark for 40 years, retiring in 1991.
He lived in Belleville, Newark and Verona before moving to Old Bridge in 2009. Luca later moved to Freehold in 2023 to assisted living where he spent his last days as a popular and much loved resident.
Luca enjoyed spending time with his family and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus in Belleville and Verona and of the Old Guard in Nutley. He was also an exceptional bocce player and bowler.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elena Masucci (nee Laurella); son, Joseph Masucci; grandson, Thomas Farbaniec and many beloved family and friends.
Luca is survived by his loving daughters, Maria Cifelli (and her husband, Gino) and Lisa Specchio (and her husband, Joseph); and his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Adelaide Salerno and sister-in-law, Anna Masucci.
