It was a scoreless grind for nine full innings yesterday afternoon, when Verona High School softball took on Whippany Park in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 semifinals. The dam finally broke in the 10th, but not in Verona’s favor. Third-seeded Whippany Park defeated second-seeded Verona 6 to 2.

Verona got just three hits in the game. Gabby Egnezzo went 2-for-4, and Julia Loudon got one. Both are juniors and could be back next year with teammates that include many other juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Verona ends the season with a 19-9 record.

The game was the last for Emily Esposito, Jordyn Hannigan, Emily Heimal, Isabella Lachina, and Ava Perry.
