The Verona Environmental Commission (VEC) is encouraging volunteers to help clean up the Peckman River and adjacent trail on Saturday, June 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. The rain date is Sunday, June 4.
Volunteers should meet behind F.N.Brown School. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The VEC recommends wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts, as well as work boots. Please use the QR code below to pre-register.
I still have dreams and wonderful memories of the Peckman River. We used to walk across the “river” as a shortcut on the way to HB Whitehorne Middle School from 1960-1963. You would get in trouble if you slipped on the rocks and wound up falling in or getting your shoes wet.
When i went back to Verona for my 50th VHS reunion in 2017, I had to re-visit that path to the Peckman River once again.
If it weren’t for the fact that I live in Florida, I would be up there on June 3 for the environmental cleanup!
