This Saturday, January 15, the boys basketball teams of Verona and Cedar Grove will play to raise money for scholarships that honor a man important to both towns.

James Anthony Jandoli passed away from cancer in 2019 at only 56. A Cedar Grove native, he became a Verona resident and part of the extended Hill family, a clan active in many Verona sports. So the Team Hill Foundation organized a game, dubbed the Jimmy Jandoli Tip-Off, to honor his memory.

This year’s Tip-Off will take place at Caldwell University on Saturday at 10 a.m. Tickets will be sold at the door. And if you crave good basketball, immediately following the Tip-Off there will be Team Hill Foundation’s Dennis Gregory Memorial Classic, to honor the former director of basketball operations at Rutgers University. Hudson Catholic will play Don Bosco Prep at noon, followed by Rutgers Prep vs. Bergen Catholic at 2 p.m., Compass Basketball Academy vs. The Patrick School National Team at 4 p.m. and St. Mary vs. Rutherford at 6 p.m.
