The Verona High School Marching Maroon and White went to their first competition of the 2018 season on Saturday—and came away with some very auspicious results.

Competing in group AAA at Roxbury, the marching band had a second-place finish with a score of 81.40. That put them ahead of Mendham and Watchung high schools and just one point behind Ridge High School. Verona also earned best effect for its performance. This year’s Marching Maroon and White show is called “American Colors” and it is based on the work of several modern and contemporary composers.

The marching band’s next competition will be much closer to home: This Saturday, they will be performing at West Orange High School. And dedicated band fans will want to reserve Saturday, October 27 for the big Festival of Bands at VHS. Ten bands will be performing in the day-long extravaganza.
