On Monday night, members of the Junior Woman’s Club received a proclamation from the Town Council for Verona Fights Hunger Week.
The Junior Woman’s Club of Verona will kick-off this year’s Verona Fights Hunger Week on Sunday, October 14. The town-wide food drive will run through Saturday, October 20.

Verona Fights Hunger Week is a town wide super-sized food drive that brings together local businesses, civic groups, charities, religious organizations and schools in the fight against hunger in our community. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the event, in which the town participates in raising donations of food and money, that benefit the food pantry at Church of the Holy Spirit and the Human Needs Food Pantry. Since 2013, the Juniors have collected over 5,000 bags of food and $10,800 in monetary donations for local food pantries.

Items needed for donation this year include healthy breakfast cereals, healthy canned goods, condiments, boxed milk, Ensure, toiletries, personal care items, and laundry detergent.

The success of Verona Fights Hunger Week stems from the generosity of Verona neighbors and local businesses.

There are many ways to help! Fill up a bag of food and bring it to a collection bin in town. The collection bins will be located at the Community Center, the Verona Library and Town Hall.

Verona Public School Students will also receive a bag to fill and they can be returned to the schools throughout the week.

Kings Supermarket, a generous sponsor of the program, will host shop-and-drops at their Verona location beginning Sunday, October 14, and ending Friday, October 19. Walgreens will also host a shop-and-drop on Sunday, October 14.

Local restaurants will also be supporting the cause, hosting Dine Out For Hunger events throughout the week. Be sure to enjoy lunch or dinner at the following Verona restaurants and dine out for a good cause:

Sunday, 10/14 – Frank Anthony’s (dinner)
Tuesday, 10/16 – Blue Hippo (lunch) and Bella Gente (dinner)
Wednesday, 10/17 – Ariane Kitchen & Bar (dinner)
Thursday, 10/18 – Lakeside Deli family take out (dinner)
Friday, 10/19 – Aroy-D, The Thai Elephant (lunch)

The week concludes on Saturday, October 20 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on the steps of Town Hall when volunteers fill an entire moving truck donated by Casella and Sons with the bags of food collected during the week. Casella and Sons has been a long-standing partner and supporter of Verona Fights Hunger Week, donating a large truck each year to transport the hundreds of bags of food.
