The Verona Lions kicked off their annual Super 50/50 fundraiser and began selling tickets at key locations in Verona. There will be up to 1,700 tickets to be sold. The awards will be 40% to the first prizewinner and 10% for second prize. Last year’s top prize winner took home more than $6,000. “All proceeds from the fundraiser go to back to Verona residents through the programs run by the Lions,” said Andrew Burger, president of the Verona Lions, during the kickoff meeting week. This years drawing will take place on December 4, 2018.
The Verona Lions have been a proactive volunteer organization since 1951. The Lions maintain a Hospital loan closet containing wheelchairs, walkers, canes and hospital beds for needy residents. The equipment is loaned to residents and delivered by members free of charge.
In addition the Verona Lions donated a new vehicle to the Township of Verona that is used to transport residents to doctors appointments.
The Lions donate over $4,000 in food gift cards each year during the holidays to needy residents. This year, they are giving $4,500 to Verona High School seniors who have excelled in community service projects. Last year they donated more than $13,000 for charitable causes.
You may notice during the Fair in the Square free eye screening exams, which are provided free of charge to residents. This is another valuable benefit that Lions volunteers provide to Verona.
