Born and raised in the Bronx, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater. He returned to school evenings to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the City University of New York. Although he was forever proud of his Bronx roots, Dick happily settled in Verona in 1965. Dick enjoyed his 46-year professional career at the Sun Chemical Corp., retiring in 1992 as the facility Mmanager in Carlstadt.
Dick was known by his many friends for his warmth, positive outlook, and involvement in the community. He was appreciated for his many life stories and the lessons he had learned from them. His quick wit and abundant charm was loved by all who knew him.
Dick was proud of his contributions as Treasurer of the Verona Park Conservancy and as President of the Verona Board of Education. He was active in Our Lady of the Lake Church for more than 50 years, serving as Chair of the first Parish Council and member of both Cursillo and Christian Family Movement.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marie E. Heaslip, son, Robert and daughter, Virginia. He is survived by his children, Richard J. Heaslip (Julia), Kenneth Heaslip (Debra), Thomas Heaslip (Catherine) and Lauren Orsini (Anthony). He is also survived by his sister, Catherine Singler and 13 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Verona Park Conservancy in his memory would be appreciated.
