Verona High School students will once again exhibit their creative endeavors from this year’s curricular and extracurricular activities at the school’s annual Creative Arts Festival on Wednesday, May 31, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The exhibition will remain on view the morning of June 1 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Parents, families, friends, VHS graduates and the community are all invited to attend the annual event, which will be held at Verona High School.

The event is sponsored by the VHS chapter of the National Art Honor Society, with society officers and members setting up the displays and coordinating the evening’s activities.

All of the displays will be set up in the new gym. The evening will feature creative projects made in numerous departments at VHS: art and graphics, digital photography, architecture, woodworking, CAD, English literature, mathematics, history, biology, world languages, STEM and STEAM.

The art exhibition features drawings from observation and designs assignments given in a wide variety of dry and wet media including pencil, charcoal, colored pencil, watercolor, tempera, india ink and collage. Hand-built ceramics pieces such as mugs, plates, containers, figures and animals are displayed as well as glass and ceramic mosaics. Fashion students will exhibit their hand-made clothing designs. Art students will be doing hand and face painting in the new gym. Hand-painted flower pots with flowers in them will be sold by the National Art Honor Society as a fundraiser to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Hand-made necklaces will be sold as well. Everyone is welcome to paint Hearts of Hope with F.N. Brown art teacher Joni Jasterzbski and VHS art students.

The evening will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the front lobby with vocal performances by VHS students under the direction of Claire Ma. Instrumental performances will be under the direction of Erik Lynch, Ryan Wiemken and Max Morden. At 8:30 p.m., the VHS Spotlight Players, under the guidance of Laurence Fry, will perform student-directed one-act plays. At 8:00 p.m. Mr. Atkin’s Engineering Club will do CO2 Dragster races (a STEM project) in the New Gym.

Art teacher Terry Sherman is the faculty adviser for the event. Graphic student Dan Frey, under the guidance of Mrs. Sciacchitano, the graphic arts teacher, designed the invitation.

The art department wishes to extend a sincere thanks to: Clinton Glass in Verona for their generous donation of mirror and colored glass, the NJEA Pride in Education funding that the VHS art department received to help support this festival, and the VHS SCA for the ongoing monetary support that the festival receives for supplies, decorations and materials needed each year to put the show together.
