public-speakingCasey Carpenter is set to speak at the “Essex Toastmasters Speakers Series” on April 9. She will share with us how Toastmasters helped in her personal and professional life. The objective of this series is to provide practical, real life experience of how Toastmasters can genuinely change your life by helping you with your public speaking and leadership skills.

Carpenter has been a Toastmaster for 10 years. Although she is a training professional and accustomed to speaking before groups, she is also an introvert. She was afraid to go to her first meeting and waited until the notice ran a second time in the local newspaper. She sought Toastmasters to up level her skills because she saw herself speaking on bigger stages on the job and beyond.

Carpenter reached the Advanced Communicator Bronze and Competent Leader levels, and held various roles within Toastmasters over the years — Club President, Vice President of Membership, and Area Governor. She competed in the International Speech Contest and reached the District level. She additionally presented at two prior District conferences, and will have the honor of presenting a workshop again in May. Carpenter feels that Toastmasters was an excellent platform for the mechanics of presenting, as well as leadership, and in 2012 qualified for and joined the National Speakers Association, New York Chapter. She mentors new speakers in her role of assistant dean of the Speaker Academy, a program that orients people who are new to speaking.

After a recent downsizing from her corporate job, she decided to form her own business and launched The Sales Breakthrough Coach, a sales communication training firm. She enjoys working with women in startups who love their work but are challenged by the sales aspect of their business. She differentiates her services by working with clients one-on-one, and focuses on the visual, verbal, and vocal aspects of communication to win in sales or other high-stakes “asks.” She also helps clients translate their messaging across social networking platforms, so that they are relevant both on and off line.

Please show Carpenter your support and stop by this Thursday, April 9th at 7pm at the Verona Public Library.
