ChristianAlfano2-AOW-YeatesThe Verona Sports Boosters would like to congratulate Christian Alfano, the boys soccer team goalie, as the Boys Senior Athlete of the Week.

A two-year starter on the Hillbilly soccer team, Alfano has helped Coach Wayne Looney’s team to a 9-8 record and be the 12th seed in the Essex County Tournament. Alfano has 121 saves and 1 shutout to his credit this season. He is wearing a pink jersey this month with the names of his two aunts on the back, to honor them as breast cancer survivors.

When not playing soccer or watching Premier League soccer on TV, Alfano referees youth soccer and basketball. He is an auxiliary fire fighter and is on the leadership council at Our Lady of the Lake. His favorite food is chicken parmigiana and his favorite TV show is The Blacklist. He plans to study education in college at either Belmont Abbey in North Carolina or Salisbury in Maryland.

During the 2014-2015 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters will recognize a different male and female senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.ChristianAlfano3-AOW-Yeates
