Brendan Marrocco, when he joined the Army.

In 2010, Verona resident Mary Bovich began to raise funds for a young soldier from Staten Island who had been severely injured in Iraq. Brendan Marrocco, who served in the same platoon as Bovich’s nephew, lost both arms and both legs and suffered extensive injuries to his neck and face.

Yesterday, Bovich let us know that Marrocco has received a double arm transplant. The surgery was performed at Johns Hopkins University’s Comprehensive Transplant Center on December 18, but doctors waited until yesterday to announce it. You can read all about the unusual surgery here. Marrocco is quoted as saying that he is already recovering feeling in his arms.
