If you purchased Verona High School Mystery Raffle tickets at the beginning of the school year, be on the lookout for committee members bearing gifts at your door. Over the weekend, the VHS SCA picked the names of more than 30 mystery raffle winners. The event raised $1,900 for the annual scholarship fund.

Thanks to the generosity of local merchants from Verona, Caldwell, West Orange and Montclair, many families were pleasantly surprised on Saturday to receive a gift. For committee members, it’s a little like playing Santa Claus–ringing doorbells and delivering gift baskets, gift cards, jewelry and other assorted goodies. This year’s grand prize is two tickets to the hit musical “Lend Me a Tenor” at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn and an overnight stay at the Westminster Hotel on Route 10.

If you vote at Verona High School, please support the SCA’s bake sale on Election Day. In addition to homemade baked good and entrees, five terrific prizes will be raffled off that day including: a 26-inch flat-screen TV (generously donated by Berman Home Systems in Verona); a pair of Vera Wang sunglasses valued at $300 from Affinity Eyecare/Verona Opticians; a $100 gift card to the Manor Restaurant in West Orange; $100 gift card to the new Salugo Bistro in Verona and dinner for two at CulinAriane in Montclair. Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each. All proceeds will to the scholarship fund awarded annually to college-bound seniors.
