Candidate Statement

Bruce Williams has lived in Verona for 31 years. He volunteers a tremendous amount of hours to the town and is working hard to be elected to represent the citizens of Verona as a first term councilman. He grew up in nearby West Orange. He is married to Kathy for 33 years who graduated from Jersey City State College with a BSN and is a Registered Nurse at a local community hospital. They have two children; Bryan, a University of Delaware graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering and Kirsten, a freshman at The University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Bruce holds a BA degree in Business Administration from Bloomfield College and is a Regional Director with a Global Security firm. Bruce is also a brother of Sigma Pi Fraternity Theta Delta at The College of New Jersey. Bruce has been involved in a multitude of volunteer activities:

FUND RAISERS

•26 Year Commitment in raising funds for charities and scholarships. Verona Jaycee Labor Day Picnic, presently operating under the UNICO Labor Day 5K Classic.

Bruce can usually be found volunteering his time to help others, spending time to help the less fortunate, and mentoring the development of young people through Scouting and Venture Crew. He has gained significant interest in understanding Autism since working with a very special person in his life through Scouting for six years and proudly walked with him in the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT-Sensible, Smart Growth

•Seek partnerships with surrounding towns on shared services

•Keep Verona Park Beautiful with Volunteerism (draws people to business district)

•Continue to Develop the Business District. Attract good businesses that are profitable for merchants that will benefit residents for a good quality of life. Encourage business owners to discuss their successes with their counterparts in the business community.

•Our senior community is an important ingredient in the make up of our town. Establish better communications by reaching out to all seniors through bi-monthly chat sessions.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY-Smart Use of Tax Dollars

•Ensure that all tax dollar expenditures are appropriate and NECESSARY as well as being effective. Work towards a zero increase in expenditures that fall within state cap.

•I will work hard to promote responsible development in town government with financial accountability

•I believe in planning for the future to keep Verona fiscally strong and our infrastructure up to standard.

PUBLIC SAFETY-Strengthen Verona

•Make sure the police, fire and first aid departments continue to have the resources, training and support they need to keep Verona citizens and families safe and secure.

•Give citizens in our neighborhoods a voice in decisions that affect their future.

VOLUNTEERISM-Service to all

•Increase awareness of Volunteer positions available to help save tax dollars

•Recognize those who come forward to speak about areas of expertise that they are familiar with that will help Verona’s future.
