The Verona Foundation for Educational Excellence will be hosting a wine tasting on Thursday, February 10 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Avenue Bistro in Verona. Guests will sample a selection of four wines and a variety of appetizers. Music will be provided by Howard Freund, the former band director at H.B. Whitehorne who is currently serving as the school’s assistant principal.
The purpose of the event is to increase awareness of VFEE, which has raised more than $150,000 since its inception in 2007 and supported more than 50 teacher-initiated grants. “Through the generosity of private contributors, VFEE has improved the quality of education for all of Verona’s students,” says VFEE President Phil Giannuario. VFEE has supported guest speakers such as a group of Native Americans from the Redhawk Native American Arts Council, a performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at HBW and the creation of a broadcast journalism studio at Verona High School.
Tickets are $45 a person and, because VFEE is a non-profit 501c (3) organization, they are tax deductible. You can get your tickets by calling Doug Smith at (973) 857-0483.
